#GivingTuesday on Facebook

#GivingTuesday is a global giving movement built by individuals and communities in the US and in countries around the world. On #GivingTuesday, millions of people come together to support and champion the causes they believe in by donating and fundraising on their behalf.

This year #GivingTuesday falls on November 28th. In celebration, Facebook and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation are partnering once again on a national campaign to support nonprofits.

Match

On #GivingTuesday, Facebook and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will be matching up to $2 million of funds raised on Facebook for US nonprofits. Facebook is also waiving its fees for donations made to nonprofits on Facebook this #GivingTuesday.

Donations to nonprofits made through Facebook’s charitable giving tools on November 28th will be matched up to $50,000 per nonprofit or $1,000 per fundraiser or donate button, until the $2 million in matching funds run out. The match will begin at 8AM EST (5AM PST).

Prior to #GivingTuesday Facebook waived all fees for donations made to US-based nonprofits during the promotion period.

As of November 29, we are excited to announce that we are now waiving all fees on donations made to nonprofits on Facebook. This means that 100% of the donations made through Facebook Payments go to the nonprofit. Learn more.

Supporting Your Favorite Causes on #GivingTuesday

There are many ways to take advantage of the matching funds and give back to your favorite causes on Facebook. Here are some easy ways to get started:

Create a fundraiser for a nonprofit

 Visit Facebook.com/fundraisers, click “Raise Money,” and select from over 750,000 nonprofits for your fundraiser. You can also find fundraisers your friends and family created that you may want to support.

Add a donate button to your Facebook post or live video

  • Write a Post: Tag your favorite nonprofit or add “#donate” to your post. You’ll see a prompt to add a donate button after you post.
  • Go Live: Tap “Live” at the top of your News Feed on mobile, and click “Add Donate Button” from the menu.

Tools for Nonprofits on #GivingTuesday

Here are general details for using Facebook’s charitable giving tools.

Eligibilty

Facebook offers a suite of tools to allow supporters to fundraise on behalf of charitable organizations in select countries. To receive distributions, your nonprofit must apply and be approved by Facebook Payments. If your nonprofit is a US-based 501(c)(3) organization and has not applied, you could receive distributions through the Network for Good Donor Advised Fund if you are listed in GuideStar.

Fees

Reporting

Nonprofits that have been approved to receive donations through Facebook Payments will have access to the following reports:

Daily Transaction Report – This report includes detailed information on each donation made to your organization, whether through the donate button or through a fundraiser. This report includes fields like First Name, Last Name, Amount Donated and Email Address (if the donor decides to share it).

Payout Report – This report shows the funds that will be transferred into your account. Learn more about this report and the timing of payouts here.

Q: What is being matched on Giving Tuesday?
A: Facebook and The Gates Foundation are partnering to contribute up to a total of $2 million in matching donations to US nonprofits on Facebook, up to $50K per nonprofit and $1K per fundraiser or donate button. Facebook will also waive all fees for donations to nonprofits on #GivingTuesday.

Q. When does the match start and end? 
A. The match begins at 8AM EST (5AM PST) and will run until it is out.

Q. When does the fee waive start and end? 
A. Facebook waived fees for donations to nonprofits for the entire day (11/28), regardless of when the match ran out. The fee waiver ran from 12AM EST to 11:59PM Hawaii UTC.

Q. How soon is the match paid out?
A. Matches will be paid out within 75 days of #GivingTuesday.
